WordPress Plugins are little bits of software that run inside your (self-hosted) WordPress install and modify it in some way. They can change what your writing panel looks like, offer you new widgets for the sidebar, or offer you an easy method to be certain your web stats code is available regardless of themes.

If you’re not sure whether you should be looking for a plugin or a modification to your theme, ask yourself if you’d still want to have this capability with a different theme. This is why I’d encourage you to use a plugin for gathering analytics, but maybe you should hard-code your ads into your themes.

This is the page that will link to all my publicly available, free WordPress plugins. Right now it’s a pretty meager list, but I don’t intend for it to stay that way.

  • Mini Quilt is a WordPress plugin that gives offers you a sidebar widget which offers a distinctive and interesting way of linking to your recent posts in the sidebar. The current version is limited, and not of the highest code quality, but it’s all I’ve got for you today. Look for an updated version on July 25.
